The Mardi Himal Base Camp trek had been on our bucket list for a long time, and in September, we finally decided to experience this hidden gem of the Annapurna region. This season, known for its lush green landscapes, also meant dealing with unpredictable rain showers, making our journey both thrilling and challenging.

Starting the Trek – A Walk Through the Green Wonderland

Our trek began from Siding village, a peaceful settlement away from the crowded trails of other popular treks. The moment we stepped onto the trail, we were surrounded by dense forests covered in mist, making the entire setting feel surreal. The rain had turned the forest into a vibrant green paradise, with fresh air and the sound of raindrops hitting the leaves adding to the magic. The path was slippery at times, but the cool breeze and the scent of wet earth kept us going.

Ascending to Higher Elevations – The Challenge of Rainy Trails

As we climbed higher, the Mardi Himal Base Camp altitude became more noticeable, and the air started getting thinner. The continuous drizzle made the rocky trails more difficult to walk on, but it also created stunning waterfalls along the way. The clouds often played hide-and-seek with the mountains, and every time they cleared, we got a mesmerizing glimpse of the Annapurna and Machhapuchhre ranges.

By the time we reached the Mardi Himal Base Camp height of 4,500 meters, the landscape had completely changed. The greenery of the lower altitudes gave way to rugged terrain and snow-capped peaks in the distance. The effort of trekking in wet conditions was completely worth it as we stood in awe of the breathtaking views.

The Journey Back – A Refreshing Descent to Siding

After spending some time at the base camp, soaking in the views and capturing the memories, we began our descent back to Siding village. The rain had stopped, leaving behind fresh, crystal-clear air and a pathway glistening in the sunlight. The downhill journey was smoother, and we enjoyed the peaceful sounds of nature, with occasional sightings of Himalayan birds and grazing yaks.
